Sixth stage of Giro d’Italia Donne 2021: Colico – Colico

After the Milan - Carugate stage won by Lorena Wiebes (DSM TEAM), today Wednesday 7 July one of the most spectacular stages of the Giro is held: at 11.05 am the Colico – Colico route, a 155 km ring, starts which runs along the entire Lake Como, between water and mountains in the provinces of Como and Lecco.

Lorena Wiebes wins in the sprint ahead of Emma Cecilie Jørgensen placed second and Marienne Vos placed third. Anna van der Breggen is still the leader of general classification. Tomorrow there will be the second Lombard stage, along Lake Como, starting and arriving in Colico: a 155 km uneven and challenging route that makes it the longest of the edition.

The Piedmontese stages ended with the victory of Anna Van der Breggen (TEAM SD WORX) in the individual time trial Formazza Fondovalle – Formazza Riale Cascata del Toce; today Tuesday 6 July, the Giro d'Italia Donne arrives in Lombardy, in fact, the Milano - Carugate stage startsat 11:40: a 122 km-long route that kicks off in the center of the Lombard capital in Piazza Affari and then goes through some of the most famous squares of the city such as the Duomo, Della Scala, San Babila and Loreto.

Van der Breggen again is the great protagonist of the day: in the time trial shewins the stage and Cima Coppi in 24’57”57 at an average speed of 26.92 km/h. Behind her, Demi Vollering at 1’05”, who scores the double win for the SDW TEAM SD WORX Dutch team. Placed third is Grace Brown of TEAM BIKEEXCHANGE at 1’16”.With tomorrow's stage, Milan-Carugate of 120.1 km, the pink race arrives in Lombardy.Flat course and first finish for fast wheels with a final circuit of 26 km to be repeated four times.

The fourth stage, the last Piedmontese stage of the Giro d'Italia Donne, arrives in the province of Verbano Cusio Ossola: after the Casale Monferrato - Ovada stage which Marianne Vos of the Jumbo-Visma Women Team won, today Monday 5 July, at 12 pm, the individual time trial is held: Formazza Fondovalle - Formazza Riale, Cascata del Toce, Cima Coppi.

Marianne Vos wins in Ovada ahead of Lucinda Brand and Liane Lippert, placed second and third. Anna van der Breggen keeps the Maglia Rosa. Tomorrow the individual time trial, the last stage in Piedmont, of 11.2 km from Formazza Fondovalle (1,210 m) to Formazza Riale, Cascata del Toce with an altitude difference of over 500 m and arrival at 1,714 m (Cima Coppi).

After the triumph of the SD WORX TEAM that brought three of its athletes on the podium during the Boves - Prato Nevoso stage that the new Maglia Rosa Anna van der Breggen won, with the third stage of the Giro d'Italia Donne we arrive in the province of Alessandria: today Sunday 4 July, at 12.05 pm the Casale Monferrato - Ovada stage kicks off, a 135 km-long route that starts at 166 m and reaches 186 m.

World champion Anna Van Der Breggen dominates in Prato Nevoso: the winner of the 2020 edition wins today’s stage, as well as Maglia Rosa, Maglia Verde and Maglia Ciclamino

It is Anna van der Breggen (SDW - TEAM SD WORX), the new Maglia Rosa, who flies along the climb to Prato Nevoso, arrival of the second stage of the Giro d'Italia Donne, which started from Boves. A hard, very challenging stage with arrival at an altitude of 1.607 after 100 km. On an all SDW - TEAM SD WORX podium, the world champion takes the stage victory in 2h 58’31 at 1’22” from Ashleigh Moolman-Pasio and at 1’51” from Demi Vollering. Fourth place for the Italian Marta Cavalli (FDJ NOUVELLE-AQUITAINE FUTUROSCOPE).
