Penultimate stage of the Giro d’Italia Donne: today Saturday 10 July, after the victory of Lorena Wiebes (TEAM DSM) of the San Vendemiano-Mortegliano leg, at 12.05 pm the Feletto Umberto-Monte Matajur stage kicks off, this year’s queen stage valid for the mountains classification. There are in fact three GPMs in this race: the first is of third category at km 25 in Attimis, the next one is of second category in Stregna at km 80 and finally the summit of Matajur, where is finish line, is a first category GPM.
This stage is the one with the greatest difference in altitude between start and finish, i.e., 1,124 m, in a 122 km–long route. It starts at an altitude of 143 m in Feletto Umberto and then moves north of Udine, where a first ring begins reaching the hills of Povoletto. In Cividale del Friuli begins a second ring that leads, with a steep climb made up of numerous turns, towards Stregna and Prepotto. Finally, the stage heads towards Mount Matajur, on the border with Slovenia at an altitude of 1,267 m. The estimated time of arrival is 3.40 pm.
At the starting line 119 athletes are present, Marianne Vos (JUMBO-VISMA WOMEN TEAM) is not riding today.
